Plant-based foods

Vegetables, fruits, and nuts

Do you want to be healthy? Do you want to live longer? Are you concerned about your food and the environment? The Food Revolution Summit 2019 has just ended with an amazing amount of scientific information about how eating a plant-based diet is best for your health and for the environment. Hosted by John Robbins (Diet For A New America) and his son, Ocean Robbins (31-Day Food Revolution), the program featured best-selling authors and international speakers. The program lasted over a week with free replays, and is now available for purchase. Familiar health gurus who presented include Dean Ornish, Joel Furhrman, Susan Pierce Thompson, Neal Barnard, and Christiane Northrup. One amazing fact I learned is that Dr. Ornish’s Program for Reversing Heart Disease is now covered by Medicare and Medicaid as well as by insurance companies such as Aetna. You can go to www.deanornish.com to see where it’s available near you. One of my favorite presenters was the physicist and environmentalist Vandana Shiva from India. Having taught courses in both environmental  science and nutrition, I was captivated by her arguments and clear-thinking. Vandana explained that beans and legumes are the solution to soil fertility and protein diets which are both needed to create balance for people and the environment. Vandana Shiva is the recipient of numerous awards and the author of several books. In addition to Earth Democracy: Justice, Sustainability and Peace, Who Really Feeds the World?,The Failures of Agribusiness and The Promise of Agroecology, her newest book is One Earth, One Humanity vs. the 1%. If any of this strikes a chord with you, now may be the time to empower yourself about your health, your food, and your environment by investigating the websites, programs, and books of these authors.
